Implementing a Customized Leadership Culture at Giant Food
Tailored Dale Carnegie programs that help managers lead through change and strengthen store-level culture.
Giant Food is a regional grocery retailer that has navigated significant organizational change while continuing to serve customers across its supermarket locations.
📍 Location: Mid-Atlantic United States (Giant Food retail operations)
🛒 Industry: Grocery Retail / Supermarkets
👥 Focus: Store managers and emerging leader

Building Leadership Strength After a Period of Change
Following an intense management merger and downsizing, many of Giant Food’s long-term employees left the company, and remaining staff felt the strain of uncertainty. According to Manager of Training Nancy Crisafulli, the company was left with “excellent operators with great technical knowledge but limited leadership experience.” Performance standards were under pressure, and Giant needed to identify and prepare internal talent to step into managerial roles with confidence.

Customizing Training Around Real-World Store Challenges
Dale Carnegie Training customized the Dale Carnegie Course to match Giant Food’s evolving priorities and on-the-floor realities. The program alternated classroom learning with periods of on-the-job application, challenging participants to apply tools and techniques directly to their daily responsibilities. In a safe, peer-supported environment, managers were coached to step outside their comfort zones, practice responses to real-world work situations, and explore more balanced, flexible management approaches.

From Skill Building to a Shared Managerial Vision
Over time, the training had a stabilizing effect on Giant’s workforce, bringing corporate and operations closer together and dissolving communication barriers between the two. Managers grew in confidence and self-awareness, became more productive, and improved their ability to build strong relationships with both employees and customers. Together, they cultivated a culture based on trust, respect, and empowerment, resulting in a shared managerial vision and a workplace where employees feel engaged in the ongoing mission and success of the company.
